Vanderbilt Health Care MBA Distinctives

Like no other university, Vanderbilt combines a world-class business school, world-class medical center and world-class health care business community.

Traditional health care business programs perpetuate the fragmented nature of the health care system. The Vanderbilt Health Care MBA program—designed with guidance from health care business leaders—truly integrates Owen with Vanderbilt University Medical Center (just down the block) and the 300+ companies that comprise Nashville’s vibrant health care community.

By graduation, you’ll understand how the myriad pieces of the health care system—delivery, finance, medical and information technology, entrepreneurship, regulation and policy—fit together. You’ll know how physicians, patients, billers and payers think.

Nowhere else do these elements converge so tightly or merge so fully. For you, the result is a unique combination of world-class resources, relationships, research and opportunities.

Have unique opportunities to learn first-hand—and apply that knowledge to the real world.

It starts with Vanderbilt’s nationally ranked core MBA foundation—an intense immersion in the fundamentals of management. Then, you’ll build on this foundation through immersion experiences in both the delivery and business of health care, combined with strategic project work solving real problems for real health care companies.

Enjoy unrivaled networking opportunities.

Through projects, lectures, networking events at Owen and elsewhere, and, frequently, through direct introductions by faculty members, you’ll have great opportunities to build relationships with executives of the more than 300 companies that comprise Nashville’s health care business community. And those relationships often  lead to internships and to rewarding careers in this robust field.

Be advantageously situated for leadership positions in health care.

In a dynamic capital of an industry that will be shaped by the next generation of leaders, a Vanderbilt Health Care MBA puts you in the right place at the right time. And in a business where, according to industry leaders, MBAs new to the field require two years to become productive, you’ll have the preparation that lets you hit the ground running.

Access to world-class library services .

Walker Management Library provide access to elite health and business information resources. The library staff provide personalized service to help you think more critically about the business of health care. Students also have access to the unparalleled Eskind Biomedical Library.

It’s little wonder that Vanderbilt places more graduates into the health care industry than any other top-ranked business school.

Prior to my Immersion experience last fall, I’d had minimal exposure to the provider side of health care. During my experience is saw a LifeFlight helicopter whoosh to a landing on the top of a building in the middle of a city at 3:13 a.m.; I witnessed a team of ER doctors and nurses spring into action as a well-oiled machine, and proceed to bring a patient back to life. I now realize how the day-to-day realities of a caregiver, an administrator and the payer shape the care that we as consumers receive. Thus, my perception now is much more holistic.
