Accounting and Financial Communications
MGT 519
Course Description:
This case-based course focuses on how corporations communicate financial complexity and crises to the market. Some of the topics to be discussed include earnings management, earnings guidance, financial reporting failures, securitization, derivatives, etc. Together we will decompose and interpret the accounting underlying each topic, and then examine and discuss what the market seems to understand. We will also be visited by Investor Relation Officers from publicly traded companies to gain insight on how these issues are handled in practice.
