Course Description:
Examines the importance of global manufacturing and service operations. Compares operational hedging with financial hedging and examines Mexican Maquiladora and Asian operations. In a global environment, operations management is directly influenced by economics, currency fluctuations, politics, cultural traditions, and the infrastructures of the countries involved. The objective of this course is to study how these and other local conditions affect strategic and operational decisions such as materials sourcing and inventory control. Basic proficiency in Microsoft Excel is required, since part of the course will involve Excel-based analysis of alternatives.
