Doctoral Seminar in Organizational Studies

Course Description:
The goal of this 8-week seminar is to provide an introduction to macro-level theories of organizations. The seminar explores both theoretical as well as empirical work that addresses questions such as: Why organizations? What can account for similarities and variations in organizational forms? How are organizations shaped by environment and technology? How do organizations adapt, learn, and evolve? The readings cover a wide range of theoretical approaches to studying organizations including behavioral, contingency, political, institutional, evolutionary, and complexity perspectives. Other topics may be covered depending on student interest.
