The Operations program focuses on the design and management of the processes by which products are manufactured and services are delivered to customers throughout the world. The faculty strongly believe in learning by doing, so if you choose either the Operations specialization or concentration, you will be actively involved in experiential learning activities throughout your two years. The Operations faculty have won international recognition for their research, teaching and publications, and have made significant contributions to knowledge about time-based competition, manufacturing cells, quality management, learning processes and manufacturing strategy.

Operations Case Competitions
Owen students took first place at the International Operations Case Competition at Carnegie Mellon’s Tepper School of Business for two years straight. Top business school teams were asked to design an effective supply chain for raw vegetable oil and biodiesel for a prize of $10,000. Five Owen students from the Classes of 2007 and 2008 took the top spot with a plan that maximized production of raw vegetable oil and biodiesel and called for an aggressive construction schedule to build several raw vegetable oil and biodiesel plants. Continuing the trend of operations excellence, another team of Owen students took second place out of 65 MBA teams worldwide in the Spring 2007 MIT Sloan Operations Simulation Competition.
