Alumni Weekend:
Celebrating the Heart of Business
Alumni Weekend 2007-08, April 11-13, was the largest such gathering in Owen’s history, with more than 550 alumni, faculty, staff and friends attending. The many events that highlighted the weekend provided alums the opportunity to reconnect and relive years of incredible memories and shape new ones. The weekend culminated with the Heart of Business—Owen Circle Celebration Dinner at the historic Country Music Hall of Fame.

Welcome Weekend: Discovering This Place
Coinciding with the Alumni Weekend festivities were the events of Welcome Weekend, in which 130 admitted MBA, Master of Finance and Master of Accountancy students came to Owen to make their final decisions for the fall. Attendees had the opportunity to explore the Owen curriculum, meet current students and alumni, and enjoy the sights and sounds of Music City.

Commencement 2008
The journey that many students began at Welcome Weekend two years ago culminated on May 9 with Owen’s commencement celebration on Magnolia Lawn. While many of the graduates will most vividly remember walking across the stage to collect their diploma, they will also certainly reflect on the extremely moving and motivational remarks by commencement speaker Howard Lutnick, CEO of Cantor Fitzgerald.

Wallin, Miller Named to Alumni Posts
Congratulations to Smoke Wallin (MBA 1993), who recently assumed the role of Owen Alumni Board President. A heartfelt thank you goes to Nancy Abbott (EMBA 1991) for her incredible vision and leadership as President. In addition, congratulations to Stu Miller (EMBA 1984), who was recently appointed as Owen’s first Alumni Council President.
Kloeppel Earns Distinguished Alumnus Award
David Kloeppel (MBA 1996), EVP/CFO of Gaylord Entertainment in Nashville, received the 2008 Distinguished Alumnus Award for outstanding achievement in professional and public life.
President Bush honors Owen alum
Randy Raggio (MBA 1997), LSU E. J. Ourso College of Business assistant professor of marketing, received the President's Volunteer Service Award on April 22, in recognition of his tireless work with Desire Street Academy in Baton Rouge, LA.
